Ottawa outlasts Smiths Falls, 3-2

The game between the Ottawa Senators and the Smiths Falls Bears was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Ottawa emerged with a 3-2 win.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by David Chevrier at 6:41 of the third period.

The win gave the Senators a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Ottawa was paced by Chevrier, who grabbed one goal.

The Senators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Smiths Falls power plays. Ottawa kept Smiths Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cory Simic made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Others who scored for Ottawa included Shawn Lynch and Robert Michel, who each put in one. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Thomas Crevier, who had one and Joe Shecter and Joey Champigny, who each chipped in two.

The Bears were helped by Victor Beaulac, who finished with one goal. Beaulac scored 2:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Brett Costello provided the assist. Neil Doef also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Alek Deblois, Chris MacMillan, and Taylor Henry, who contributed one each.

Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 25 saves for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Smiths Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
