London holds on for 4-3 win against Cambridge

The Cambridge Winter Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the London Nationals held on for a 4-3 victory.

London took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Cambridge storm back on a Mitch Klie goal 6:03 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

With the win, the Nationals evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

London was paced by Aaron Dartch, who finished with one goal. Dartch scored on the power play 1:47 into the third period to make the score London. Matt Fuller assisted on the tally.

The Nationals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Winter Hawks to score on any of their four power plays. London forced Cambridge goalie Jordan Lee to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The defensemen of the Nationals were also effective in the Winter Hawks' zone, and came away with two goals.

London also got points from Fuller, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Noah Schwartz, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. London also got a goal from Robert MacFarlane as well. More assists for London came via Shawn CrowleyBlake ThomasPaul Hopkins, and Tyler Bryden, who each chipped in one.

Cambridge's offense rang up 33 shots on London's net.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Trevor Hache, who racked up one goal. Hache scored 1:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 London. Chris Taylor provided the assist. Cambridge additionally got points from Klie, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cody Gratton also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Brandon PlourdeAndrew CouplandLawrence Pagnan, and Todd Bannermon, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor Edwards recorded 30 saves for the Nationals. London incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cambridge's Lee stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Winter Hawks incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
