London wins Sutherland Cup in tough contest against Cambridge, 4-2

The game between the London Nationals and the Cambridge Winter Hawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end London emerged with a 4-2 win, thus taking the title of 2013 Sutherland Cup Champions.

The Nationals gained the winning advantage on a goal by Noah Schwartz 15:04 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The win by London clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

Paul Hopkins was all over the ice for the Nationals, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Hopkins scored the first of his two goals at 13:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 London. Jeff Bauer picked up the assist. Hopkins' next tally made the score 2-0 London with 9:09 left in the second period. Schwartz provided the assist.

London forced Cambridge goalie Jordan Lee to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Nationals did not rack up many penalties in the contest, registering just one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

London also got points from Schwartz, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Tyler Bryden, who also racked up one goal and two assists.

London was unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Mitch Klie, who grabbed one goal. Klie scored 11:50 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Alex Bottigoni picked up the assist. Cody Gratton also scored for Cambridge.

Taylor Edwards made 31 saves for the Nationals on 33 shots. London registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Lee rejected 35 shots on goal for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
