A high paced affair took place at the Edge Ice Arena on Friday night. Hollandlooked to extend their win streak to three. The Lighting on the other end of the winning spectrum looked to pick up their third win of the year. Both teams were ready to go full force and demolish the opposition.
The first period held no scoring but outstanding goaltending performances by Hollandgoaltender John Posler and Lightning goaltender Jeff LaBaere. The Lightning fired 12 shots while the Bandits fired 14 in the first. The Bandits were also handed two power play opportunities. These opportunities would be shut down by the Lightning.
The second period held the first goal of the game. This goal would be buried into the back of the net by Holland’s leading point scorer, Tyler Teglia. This would be all the Bandits needed throughout the game to secure the win. The Bandits would trade back their power play opportunities, giving the Lightning two of their own chances. Neither one would be capitalized on. Trevor McCoy would ignite his team with a fight late in the second, giving the Bandits the momentum they needed to finish off the game.
In the third, the Bandits would finally capitalize on a power play chance. The goal would be scored by Cam Fisher 10 minutes into the third period. This would give the Bandits a 2-0 lead with only 1:10seconds left on the clock and Alex Carson would put the game away with an empty netter. Cam Fisher would assist this goal, giving him his third point of the night. John Posler would finish the night facing 36 shots and turning aside all of them. This would be the River Bandits’ first shutout.
