There has been a big change in Chilliwack, BC at Fairfield Island, home of the University of Fraser Valley Cascades. Alum Riley Jepson has taken over the reigns and hired as the new Head Coach. As a player, Jepson, transferred from UFV to University of Texas-Tyler a NCAA Division 2 program. After completion of his time in Texas he played some independant professional baseball in the Pioneer league for the Great Falls club. During 2021 and having a standout season he was signed by the Chicago White Sox and assigned to their A+ team in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Now he has transitioned into the other side of the game and joins a new crop of Head Coaches across the CCBC over the recent years.
The UFV Cascades have reloaded with talent and returned a core of players that should make a run at the CCBC standings. Mason Chien (RHP, Langley, BC) returns for his sophomore season and looks to lead the Cascades pitching staff. New face Kai Fyke (RHP, Whalley, BC) has created some waves over the offseason with his developing fastball jumping into the low mid 90's. The 2023 UFV staff sat in the middle of the CCBC statistically holding a 4.79 ERA and limiting opponents to a .233 batting average.
At the plate first team All Conference outfielder Brady Renneberg returns for his second season in a Cascades uniform. Renneberg hit .309 and led the Cascades in RBI's. Javee Tagudar, OF joins UFV from the Langley Blaze. He's looking to contribute with his team approach and the ability to run. Lane Grunerud, OF will be looking to repeat as an all-conference player for the second year in a row and lead his team through his grit and grind.
The Cascades will get going in mid March with a series of non conference games before opening up the 2024 CCBC season at home against the University of Calgary Dinos March 30-31 at Fairfield Island.
