Sunflower League teams represent at NBC World Series

Hutchinson, Kan. -- The host Hutchinson Monarchs opened the 2022 NBC World Series with a 13-1 rout of the 316 Sluggers last night (July 28) in Hutchinson, Kan.
With the score tied 1-1, the Monarchs used a six-run third inning to take control and never look back.
Hunter Autrey tripled home Sawyer Thornhill to begin the onslaught and Alex Birge launched a grand slam to cap the decisive inning.
The Monarchs then added on with runs in the fourth and fifth innings before a three-run blast from Thornhill in the sixth inning put the exclamation point on the run-rule victory.
Thornhill paced the Monarchs with three hits, three runs and three RBIs.
Corbin Hawkins blanked the Sluggers over the final four innings on just one hit while fanning seven batters to pick up the win for the Monarchs.
Next up for Hutchinson is a matchup with the Lonestar Baseball Club tomorrow night (July 30) starting at 6 pm.
