The Haysville Aviators struck early and never looked back in winning 14-6 last night (July 25) over the Newton Sluggin' Rebels in the third-place game of the 2022 Sunflower League Tournament.

The Aviators built a 4-0 lead through three innings before RBI doubles by Paul Wittmann and Alex Jarboe along with run-scoring singles from Tommy Davis and Max Valdez powered a four-run fourth inning that created an 8-0 cushion.

Following a two-run single by Easton Elliot that finished a three-run bottom of the fourth that put the Sluggin' Rebels on the board, the Aviators put up another crooked number in the fifth as Isaac Davila doubled home a run to ignite a five-run frame and push the lead to 10 runs.

Colby Wilson started for the Aviators and lasted five innings, allowing three earned runs along with three strikeouts to earn the victory.

Alex Ronk then closed out the win with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.

Jarboe and Trent Mallonee each had four hits to anchor the Aviators' offensive attack. Haysville (22-18-1) also got two RBIs each from four different hitters.

Elliot and Bailyn Sorensen each had three hits to pace the Sluggin' Rebels (25-18).

The NBC World Series is slated to begin this Thursday (July 28).
