Sunflower League teams represent at NBC World Series

The Cheney Diamond Dogs charged back from an early seven-run deficit to win 16-9 over the Hutchinson Monarchs in the 2022 Sunflower League Tournament championship game yesterday evening (July 24) at Panther Park.
The Monarchs got off to a strong start, plating four runs in the first inning and then getting a solo homer from Lane Brewster and a three-run blast by Cade Clemons for a 7-1 lead after two innings.
After the Monarchs scored again in the third for a seven-run lead, the Diamond Dogs went to work, using five-run outbursts in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings to end up scoring 15 of the game's final 16 runs.
Cody Moore singled home two runs and RBI doubles by Lincoln Andrews and Ryan Scott capped the Diamond Dogs' fourth inning outburst.
A two-run double by Lenny Ashby along with a two-run triple from Andrew Brautman powered the Diamond Dogs' next five-run frame in the sixth that put Cheney on top 11-9.
Jaxson Syring then had a two-run single to help the Diamond Dogs score five more in the eighth inning to put things away.
George Specht paced the Diamond Dogs with three hits, while Brautman, Moore and Syring each drove in three runs. Syring also hit a solo homer for Cheney's first run in the second inning.
Brewster led the Monarchs with three hits and Clemons finished with three RBIs.
Andrew Wisner pitched four innings in relief for the Diamond Dogs, allowing one earned run on two hits to earn the win.
The NBC World Series is scheduled to begin Thursday (July 28) and wrap up Aug. 6.
