Hutchinson, Kan. -- The Newton Sluggin' Rebels charged back from a four-run deficit to win 7-5 over the Hutchinson Monarchs last night (July 21) at Hobart-Detter Field.

Trailing 4-0 after three innings, the Sluggin' Rebels got on the board with a run in the fourth and then pulled even with a three-run fifth inning.

An RBI single by Micah Dvorak then keyed a two-run seventh frame that gave Newton the lead.

Hunter Autrey doubled home a run in the eighth to pull the Monarchs within two runs, but Alex Gillig came on and struck out two and stranded the bases loaded to preserve the lead.

Gillig then pitched a scoreless ninth frame to close out the win for Newton.

Ethan Guerra scored a pair of runs for the Sluggin' Rebels, while Joey Baran went 3-of-5 with a homer and three RBIs for the Monarchs.

Both teams will now gear up for the 2022 Sunflower league tournament ahead of the NBC World Series.  Hutchinson (29-8) receives a first-round bye, while Newton (24-16) is scheduled to square off with Kingman tomorrow (July 23) at 5 pm.
