The Oswego State ACHA Hockey program is excited to announce that they have hired Travis Hyde as the team’s next head coach. Travis is set to take over the reins for the 2021-2022 season and become the fourth head coach in the program’s history. The Syracuse, NY native brings over 3 years of coaching experience from three vastly different organizations. Most recently, he was the Head Coach for the Syracuse Nationals 16U AAA Ice Hockey team during the 2020-2021 season. He was also the assistant coach for the Ohio University ACHA program in 2019-20 when he attended OU to earn his Master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Coaching Education. In that season with Hyde on the staff, Ohio went 24-8-4 and were consistently ranked as one of the top 10 ACHA teams in the country.
Coach Hyde is also no stranger to the NECHL Conference – having played for Cortland State from 2016-2018 where he racked up 57 points in 50 games played and was named to the All-Conference 2nd Team in his senior season.
Hyde enjoys an up-tempo, fast paced approach to the game with an aggressive fore-check and a disciplined team defense where every player on the roster is expected to contribute. Coach Hyde is looking forward to getting started at Oswego State and continuing to build on the winning culture that the team has set over the last few seasons.
“I am pleased and excited to be welcomed into the tradition of Laker Hockey. The foundation that surrounds the organization built by the previous coaching staff will provide the building blocks to a successful start,” Hyde said. “The hockey culture surrounding the organization from the students of the University to the Oswego community coupled with a team of immense talent and previous success has me eager to get started right away.”
Travis currently resides in Baldwinsville, NY where he owns Hyde Hockey Development, is an Advisor for Advancement Hockey, and is a volunteer off-ice official for the Syracuse Crunch. With his experience and the team’s previous success, Coach Hyde is hopeful to bring an NECHL Conference Championship and a trip the ACHA National Tournament in 2021-22.
