Oswego State (15-9-1, 8-3-1) traveled to Ohio this past weekend for a 2 game set with the Kent State Golden Flashes (6-17-5). The Lakers took both games to extend their current win streak to 5 and improve their record since the holiday break to 7-1-0.

Friday night’s contest featured a back-and-forth high scoring affair that included extra hockey and the Lakers’ first shootout win of the season.  Andrew Cardi opened the scoring 10 minutes in but Kent State answered scoring with 5 minutes to play in the first and taking the lead 7:30 into the second. Colby Skrupa responded at the halfway point of the game and then Braydon Deming notched his team leading 15th goal (currently at 16 goals) to regain the Laker lead. The Golden Flashes would tie the game with 34 seconds left in the second period to set up an exciting third period.

Luke Myers and Anthony Robinson scored in the first 11 minutes of the third but again the Oswego lead didn’t stick. Rubin Chavarria got the Golden Flashes within 1 with 7 minutes to play in the game and then Justin Bioni tied the game with 29 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Despite several chances by both teams the extra 5 minute 3 on 3 session wasn’t enough and the game was extended to a 3 man shootout.

Luke Myers scored on Oswego’s first attempt and that was enough to give Oswego the win as Ryan Schirano stopped all 3 Kent State shooters to earn his third win of the season.

On Saturday evening the Lakers kept their offensive surge firing. After a 1-1 first period the Lakers exploded for 5 unanswered goals. Braydon Deming, Luke Myers, Andrew Cardi, Chase Nies, and Trevor Jubran all put up multi-point nights in the 6-1 Oswego win. Luke Myers 3 assists in the game moved him to 6th all-time in scoring – just 2 points away from 5th. The Senior from New City, NY is having a career year offensively. Myers' 36 points (13-23-36) leads the team and his 23 assists is good for 3rd most assists in a single season in the program’s history.

Dan Dorney stopped 29 of 30 shots to earn the win in his first start of the season.

Oswego gears up for their final 2 regular season games with a pair of huge conference matchups this upcoming weekend. On Friday night the Lakers travel to RIT and on Sunday afternoon Oswego finally returns home for Senior Day against Canisius College. We will have a full weekend preview right here later in the week.
