Oswego State will open their season against Slippery Rock University (1-0-0) at home this upcoming weekend. The Lakers and the Pride will play a 2 game set at the Campus Center on Friday night at 8:00 PM and Saturday afternoon at 2:30 PM. Slippery Rock opened their season when they defeated Canisius College 7-2 back on September 13th but they have not played since. The Pride are led by Junior forward, Jamie Mauro, who led the entire nation in points last season with 82 (44-38-82) in 38 games.
Oswego State comes into the weekend with a convincing 5-1 pre-season victory over Hobart College (ACHA DII) under their belts. Brett Dawson (1-1-2) and Chase Nies (2-0-2) led the way for the Lakers with multi-point games while rookies Andrew Corning (Syracuse, NY) and Colby Skrupa (Syracuse, NY) also added goals for Oswego. 1st year goaltender Ryan Shirano (Rochester, NY) and senior goaltender Dan Perepezko combined to allow just (1) goal on (23) Hobart shots.
Oswego State paid a visit to Slippery Rock last January where they lost 2 hard fought games at SRU. Jamie Mauro, then in his sophomore campaign, combined for 5 points in those two games and factored in on 50% of Slippery Rock’s offensive output on the weekend. The Lakers will look to avenge those 2 losses this weekend and start the season on a high note.
Head Coach Chris Timmons discussed the outcome of the pre-season game and is looking ahead to this weekend, “The pre-season game helped to show us where we are at and some areas we need to improve on in order to be successful. Going into this week, we will fine tune those areas and look to get off to a strong start this season against a talented team.”
The Lakers will continue their home stand the following weekend and begin NECHL conference play when Rutgers University comes to town on Friday and Saturday.
As always, all home games are free for students and to the general public. The doors will open at 7:20 PM on Friday evening and 1:50 PM on Saturday afternoon.
