With the Fall semester in full swing, we take a look at the SCHC and where the six competing teams stand after week one and look ahead to week two of ACHA competition.
Embry-Riddle started off their season with a home-and-home series split with the UCF Knights that saw the home team win each game. The only other game last weekend was on 9/13 where the University of Tampa ran Miami out of their own rink 8-3.
As it stands now, UT sits in first place in the SCHC with a 1-0 record in SCHC conference games and a 2-0 record overall. Tampa's +5 goal differential is what gives them possession of first place in the SCHC over Embry-Riddle, who has a 1-1 record in conference play after a 6-3 win at home and a 2-0 loss on the road during their weekend series with UCF who sits in third place. There are two teams who have yet to play a game in the young season: Florida Gulf Coast and University of South Florida. Those two teams sit in a three-way-tie for fourth place with Miami who has an 0-2 record after their 8-3 loss in their season opener to Tampa and 12-0 loss this past Sunday.
There are four games to watch with week with three SCHC teams in action. The U-Tampa Spartans hit the road to Atlanta, GA to visit Kennesaw state for a pair of non-conference games. Meanwhile, your Eagles will embark on another home-and-home series, this time against the USF Bulls. ERAU had a very strong showing in their first two games of the season earning the weekend split against UCF, and the Eagles will look to use those games in hand to their advantage as USF has yet to hit the ice in game action this season. Off this weekend are Miami, UCF, and Gulf Coast. What is interesting here is that FGCU does not have any games scheduled until they visit Daytona on October 4th and 5th for their season opener, so they will have some catching up to do with games in hand over their other SCHC competition.
Your Embry-Riddle Eagles look to defend home ice at the Eagles' Nest at the Daytona Ice Arena this Friday, 9/20 against the USF Bulls. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30pm at the Daytona Ice Arena. Admission is $8 at the door. If you cannot make it out to the game, you can find our live broadcast feed on the ERAU Hockey YouTube channel.
