Embry-Riddle Hockey 2022-2023 Schedule Released
Date: Jul 17, 2022
Despite the semester having barely started, the ERAU Hockey team had a massive test in front of them. They trekked down to Miami to begin a new season, in a new conference, with big expectations. The Eagles had stepped into one of the most competitive conferences in the ACHA D3, the Southern Collegiate Hockey Conference, featuring schools like Florida Gulf Coast, University of Tampa, University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, and University of Miami. The Eagles roster had a lot of returning faces, with Captain Brenden Barger leading the flock along with Assistant Captains Kyle Usiak, Ryan Marks, and Chris Barton. But at the same time the lineup displayed a great deal of youth, with eager freshman hungry to contribute.
The first game showed the Eagles what level of competition they would face this year. Despite a dominating start, and strong effort from goaltender Nico Prulhiere, the boys just couldn’t find the back of the net, and fell 3-0 against a seasoned Miami team they felt they had outplayed. But they knew that would have another chance at them, and Coach Bob Joyce reiterated patience and poise.
The second game the Eagles got their wish and bested the Hurricanes in a strong 5-2 showing. The scoresheet saw contributions from veterans Ryan Marks and Ben Solomon in the goal department, as well as freshmen Jordan Sheppard and Wyatt Ebner finding the back of the net. Another standout freshman Alex Faller notched an impressive goal and two assists. The win was a landmark, the first of the season, the first Riddle had against an SCHC Team, and the first against a higher ranked team.
The Team looks to keep the ball rolling this Friday in their Home Opener against the University of Florida. Puck drop is at 9pm at Daytona Ice Arena. As always, it is sure to be a full house. We look forward to seeing all of our great fans (old and new)!
