UBC Baseball Announces Expanded Youth Performance Teams and Programs
The UBC Baseball program has been rapidly growing since the opening of the Rose Indoor Training Centre (September 2015) and now the scheduled construction of a new baseball stadium (opening Spring 2018). We are excited to announce a series of additions to our youth and community programs that will be based out of the UBC Baseball facilities.
We will continue to expand the varsity brand through access to our facilities while having our coaches and players serve as coaches and instructors. This will help grow the sport of baseball throughout Vancouver, BC and Canada.
Our newly established UBC Thunder BCPBL organization that started play this season allows Vancouver based players another option to play baseball in Vancouver through the ages of 13-18. It was an incredible first year for our Junior team as they finished 2nd at the BCPBL Championships while also winning the North Shore Twins Can-Am Tournament. This success has allowed us to now expand our BCPBL organization to include a Bantam and Senior team for the 2018 season. As part of UBC’s Youth Performance programs, the UBC Thunder teams are focused on player development which will allow our graduating players the best possible college/university option available to them. They are not an official feeder program to our UBC varsity team. Our varsity program will continue to recruit the very best student-athlete baseball players from across Canada including the entire BCPBL league.
