The Brockville Tikis winning streak at the Memorial Centre came to an end Wednesday after losing to the Arnprior Packers 4-1.
The Tikis put up a strong effort against the Richardson Division’s first-place team, but Arnprior managed to smother them at times and finished with 52 shots, compared to the 29 pucks Brockville fired on net.
The Packers opened the scoring in the first period just nine seconds into a power play with Matthew Labrosse earning his league-high 27th point and 17th goal.
Arnprior picked up a 2-0 lead in the second period before Brockville’s Rocco Barresi cut into the Packers lead with a power play goal of his own. The Tikis have now scored five power play goals in their last three games.
Instead of being able to push down on the gas pedal, the Tikis gave up a late shorthanded goal with just 18 seconds left in the second period.
Arnprior put the finishes touches in the game with another shorthanded goal by Daniel Monk, who is tied for second on the CCHL2 points leader board with teammate Bailey Hein.
The loss was Brockville’s first at the Memorial Centre this year in five games, which is a success considering the team only won three games at the local arena all last season.
The Tikis will be looking to get their first win on the road when they travel for a pair of games, starting with the Renfrew Timberwolves on Friday and then the Prescott Flyers on Saturday. The Tikis take on the Richmond Royals at home next Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
