Nationals: Rhode Island Rolls Over Massachusetts, 5-2


Kalamazoo, MIchigan: 

Prior to the start of the game two URI players were honored with All-American Awards. Sydney Collins 1st Team Forward and Brenna Callahan 2nd Team Defense. 

This was the 6th game between the 2 teams this season and URI prevailed to be the top team out of the 6 game series with a record of 3-2-1. URI finished with a 1-2-0 record at the National Tournament falling to eventual National Champions Miami Ohio and Adrian in pool play. UMass finished winless with a 0-3-0 record. 

Rhode Island's penalty kill excelled, as Rhode Island gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Alisha Difilippo was all over the ice for Rams, as she racked up two goals in the win.

Rhode Island stifled Minutemen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Rams kept Massachusetts' goalie busy throughout the game, and Samantha Baturin made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Rhode Island additionally got points from Kristen Levesque, who also registered one goal and one assist. Rhode Island Rams also got a goal from Monica Darby as well. In addition, Rhode Island received assists from Casey Mccormick and Sydney Collins, who each chipped in two and Jacquelyn Keable and Janessa Courtney, who contributed one apiece.

Minutemen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rhode Island to score on any of their four power plays.Massachusetts were held below their usual level of production. Minutemen averages 4.4 goals per game.

Massachusetts were led by Brittani Lanzilli, who finished with one goal and one assist.Lanzilli scored in the third period to make the score 4-2 Rhode Island. Michaela Tosone provided the assist.Ally Perdios also scored for Massachusetts. More assists for Massachusetts  came via Tosone, who had one.

Abigail Torres rejected 28 shots on goal for Rams. Rhode Island incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Minutemen ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
