The Prescott Flyers owned a 3-1 lead through two periods and went on to defeat the Brockville Tikis 5-2 in a Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 game Saturday night in Prescott.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, with Prescott's Devan Miller and Brockville's Johnny Ciaccia doing the scoring. A pair of unanswered goals in the second by Prescott, however, turned the game in the home team's favour. Tyler Ollson and Carson Pickup did the damage.
Twenty-three seconds into the third period, Prescott pretty well put the game away, as Dan Monk gave the Flyers a 4-1 lead.
Connor Burns, a 19-year-old Kingston native defenceman in his fifth game back with the Tikis after starting the season with the Ontario Junior Hockey League's Kingston Voyageurs, scored his first goal of the season to make it 4-2 just shy of the five-minute mark of the third, but Riley Howarth completed the scoring for Prescott in the final minute.
The Richardson Division's seventh-place Flyers (8-14-1-2) outshot the eight-place Tikis (5-20-0-0) just 25-24 in the game.
In another game Saturday night, the Perth Blue Wings dumped the Westport Rideaus 4-1 in Westport.
The Blue Wings scored twice in the first period — Lucas Driscoll-McKinnon and Karson McCartney — and got another pair in the se ond — Brendan Mendham and Dylan McNamara — to give them the win. Skylar Choffe netted Westport's lone goal late in the second period, making the score 2-1 at the time.
Perth, the league's top team at 19-2-1-1, outshot the Rideaus (12-11-1-0) in every period, and 49-28 overall.
