2012 Team Banquet
Date: Aug 3, 2012
On a hot humid day in Sarnia, the Pacers hung tough for 20 minutes - then saw their bench shrink and their hopes for a win vanish. They opened the scoring just 61 seconds in on a Kevin Conroy marker and it seemed got the Pacer faithful into the game. The Spartans bulged the twine twice to take a goal lead - one while enjoying the man advantage. Conroy found the back of the net twice more giving the home team the lead once again. It would be the last time in this game. St. Catharines notched the game at three apiece just 32 seconds later and the teams went to their dressing rooms tied - in goals and in shots on goal.
The second period seemed to start off OK, with both teams having some great chances but the goalies were rock solid - at least until the 9:38 mark. Then the floodgates opened for the Spartans who went on an eight goal run over the 2nd and 3rd periods while the number of bodies on Sarnia's bench seem to get less and less and less. Adding insult to injury to the hometeam fans, two short-handed goals were given up during the same power play with under 4 minutes to go.
Taking the loss in goal for Sarnia was Justin Matthews who faced 49 shots from the Spartans. MVP for Sarnia was Ryan Charteris who played a solid defensive game and picked up an assist. Turning aside 36 shots and picking up MVP for the Spartans was goaltender Doug Buchan.
