2012 Team Banquet
Date: Aug 3, 2012
Last evening the Pacers battled their opponents on the floor while they and everyone else at the rink had the chance to show their support in the battle against suicide as Sarnia held their homestand night for Suicide Awareness. The players took to the floor, each of them sporting an orange band around their arms while orange ribbons and Soap for Hope was made available to all who would choose to support this cause.
It was warm in the building and it got hot on the floor - quickly. With Dan Charlton opening the scoring just 3:31 into the period, the Red Devils notched it at one each before the first match of the night took place between Sarnia's Ben Tamming and Clint Lamarsh of the Red Devils. By the time their little dance ended, so did their playing time in this game as each were given game misconducts in addition to their fighting majors. Wallaceburg took the lead but could only hold on to it for just over two minutes before TJ Mara's shot notched it at two apiece. The go ahead goal for the Pacers came with 29 seconds remaining in the period and scoring the goal was the player who started the scoring this period -- Dan Charlton.
In the second period it seemed Wallaceburg was going to run away with the game, scoring early and often and had a 3 goal lead by the 11:01 mark. But the Pacers weren't giving up that easily and bulging the twine twice withing 22 seconds was Kevin Conroy - setting the stage for a third period comeback. And comeback they did, in fine fashion.
The 3rd period began with bout #2 and both fighters - Mara (Sarnia) & Knight (Wallaceburg) barely waited for the whistle to go before the gloves were dropped and both runners were taking turns landing punches. When it was all over and done with, Mara went to Knight and gave the old pat on the back to say "thanks for the tilt". The boys on the bench were even more pumped after this fight and seemed ready to things going. It began the way the 2nd period ended. Notching the "natural" hattrick - albeit with an intermission between periods - Kevin Conroy opened the scoring in the final period of the game while his team was playing shorthanded. With Kevin Hussey in the box for unsportmanlike conduct minor, Justin Matthews made the stop and then got possession of the ball. He made a nifty pass to TJ Mara who carried the ball up the floor and found Kevin Conroy who wasted little time in bulging the twine and the game was tied at sixes. Giving the home team the lead just over 7 minutes into the period was Connor Smith who took possession in his own end and flew down the length of the floor to pot the goal. Just about 2 minutes later, Dan Charlton gave his team a two goal lead and the home town fans got loud in their encouragement. Putting the exclamation point on the game with 70 seconds remaining was Aaron Schieman whose presence throughout the game was morale booster. Action shots of the game can be found in our photo gallery!
The crowd was entertained during the 1st intermission as the novice teams from both clubs took to the floor. Visit out photo gallery and see some of their action! The second intermission was the frisbee toss which was used as a fund raiser for Suicide Awareness and all monies raised are to go to the St. Clair Child & Youth Services.
