2012 Team Banquet
Date: Aug 3, 2012
The Pacers travelled to Owen Sound yesterday (Sunday the 22nd) and it appeared, at first, that the long bus trek had no effect on them. They came out like gangbusters against a team that was looking for their first win (they were 0-6 to start) and who were playing their home opener a month into the season. The boys in black opened up a two goal lead, gave one up, then notched another two before Owen Sound reeled off three of their own to tie the game at 4 when the teams went off to their dressing rooms after 20 minutes of play.
The second stanza saw the home team Pro Stars take it to the Pacers, outscoring their opponents by a score of 6-2 with three of them coming from their specialty teams - one power play goal and two shorties. By the time this period ended, the home town team was leading by a score of 10-6 and were looking to extend it.
Sarnia got the final goal of the second period and it seemed to spark the visitors. The Pacers reeled off three in a row to begin the third period and pulled them to within one. However, the Pro Stars were not about to let their first win slip out of their hands that easily and bulged the twine twice more. Sarnia got one back but it was too little, too late, down by two with 36 seconds remaining.
Taking the loss in net for the Pacers was Ian Ferguson. Picking up points in this game were Kevin Hussey (1g 1a), Ryan Charteris (1a), Kevin Conroy (2g 4a), Chad Zonneville (1a), Brandan Burr (2a), TJ Mara (1g 1a), Dan Charlton (3g 1a), Ian Ferguson (1a), Josh Eldredge (2g), Joe McKelvie (1g), Connor Smith (2a).
The Pacers have one more road trip before they open up a two game homestead on the weekend. On Wednesday the 25th, they travel to Wallaceburg. On Friday the 27th, we host the Six Nations Rebels and it's an 8 pm start. On Saturday the 28th, the Orangeville Northmen pay a visit and that game begins at 7pm.
