Pacers Can't Make it 3 Road Wins in a Row

Date:  Source: Sarnia Pacers

The Sarnia Pacers rolled into Guelph earlier today with 13 runners and 2 goalies.  Both teams had suffered a single loss but Guelph had an additional win.  After tonight's game, their record went to 5-1 while Sarnia now sports a 3-2 record, still good enough for top spot in the Far West Division.

Surprisingly, it was the visitors who shook off their bus legs and took a 3-2 lead into the dressing room after 20 minutes of play.  Scoring all three goals for Sarnia that period was Aaron Schieman who opened the scoring for the Pacers just over 3 minutes in the period.

In the second period, Sarnia again opened the scoring on a Ben Tamming marker. Guelph notched the next two to tie the game at four apiece before TJ Mara put Sarnia ahead once again.  The Regals then rolled off 4 straight goals before Sarnia responded with two of their own. The first came off the stick of Lance Ross and with 25 seconds remaining in the period, Connor Smith bulged the twine with a power play goal that got the Pacers to within one.  The Royals took an 8-7 lead into the dressing room.

The final 20 minutes was all Guelph all the time as the Pacers just could not get anything going or behind the Regals netminder.  Instead Guelph reeled off 8 straight goals - one of them short-handed.  Although Pointstreak shows Justin Matthews giving up all 16 goals, an observer at the game said that Ian Ferguson played during the final 9:31 and gave up four goals.

The Pacers will now try to put that loss behind them as they take on the Wallaceburg Red Devils on Wednesday, May 11th  -- a team who also suffered a loss this evening.
