The London Nationals tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Chatham Maroons held on for a 3-2 victory.
A goal by Michael Verboom put Chatham up 3-1 in the third period, but London pulled to within one on Tanner Ferreira's tally 11:39 into the third period.
Brennan Feasey was all over the ice for the Maroons, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Feasey scored 8:22 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Steven Beenackers picked up the assist.
Chatham kept the Nationals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Tugwell made 37 saves on 40 shots.
Chatham also got points from Trevor Richardson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Verboom, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Chatham came via Brayden Hopkins, who had one.
London excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Nationals forced the Maroons goalie Bo Bessette to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.
London was helped by Drew Worrad, who registered one goal and one assist. Worrad scored 6:32 into the second period to make the score 1-0 London. Ferreira provided the assist. London additionally got points from Ferreira, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, London received assists from Justin Murray and Derek Todosichuk, who each chipped in one.
Bessette rejected 38 shots on goal for Chatham. The Maroons ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Chatham ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alexander Morgan was ejected from the game. The Nationals totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For London, Kyle L Robinson was ejected from the game.
