The Lambton Shores Predators could not stop the Strathroy Rockets' Mark MacAulay, who tallied a hat trick in a 10-3 win.
MacAulay's first goal came 4:46 into the second period. He then added goals at 13:59 into the third and at 17:32 into the third.The game was close after the first frame, but Strathroy banged in six goals during the second period to put the victory out of reach for Lambton Shores.
The Predators' power play was ineffective against the Rockets' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:54 into the first period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.
Strathroy racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and three majors for 63 minutes in penalty time. The Rockets surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Strathroy forced Predators' goalies to work in net, finishing with 38 shots and forcing 28 saves. Anthony Hurtubise made 17 stops and Andrew Harriman-Duke made 11. The Rockets bested their season scoring average. This season, Strathroy averages 3.8 goals per contest.
Strathroy additionally got points from Brett Dalton, who also registered one goal and five assists to lead the team in points, Stuart King, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Kieran Milne, who also had one goal and three assists, and Sam Vokes, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Dan Chapman also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Nick Griffin, Kurtis Sander, Andrew Martin, and Matt Knight-Bedour, who contributed one each.
Lambton Shores forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and four majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The Predators had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Lambton Shores' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Strathroy power plays. The Predators forced the Rockets goalie Mat Ouellet to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.
Lambton Shores was helped by Sean Ross, who registered one goal. Ross scored short handed 40 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brenden Trottier picked up the assist. Lambton Shores also got points from Colin Burns, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Ryan Fraser as well. Ouellet recorded 29 saves for Strathroy. Team's Nick Whitworth, Jack Kilgour, and Jacob Rody were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For the Predators, Drew Marlatt, Brent Hammett, and Bryan Boersma were ejected from the contest.
