The Brampton Bombers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Cambridge Winter Hawks held on for a 4-2 victory.
A goal by Maxime Lamontagne put Cambridge up 4-1 in the third period, but Brampton pulled to within two on Noah Robinson's tally 13:04 into the third period.
Lamontagne was all over the ice for the Winter Hawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Lamontagne scored the first of his two goals at 6:54 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Cambridge. Mitch Atkins picked up the assist. Lamontagne's next tally made the score 4-1 Cambridge with 11:12 left in the third period. Alex Bottigoni assisted on the tally.
Cambridge racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Winter Hawks surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game.
Cambridge also got points from Bottigoni, who also registered one goal and one assist. Matt Harding also scored for Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Kyle Liu, who had two and Riley MacRae and Phil Caputo, who contributed one each.
The Bombers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cambridge to score on any of its six power plays.
Brampton also got a goal from Lucas Goodman as well. More assists for Brampton came via Robert Orlando and Austin Kozluk, who each chipped in one.
Lucas Machalski made 27 saves for the Winter Hawks on 29 shots. Cambridge ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ben St Marseille was ejected from the game. Shane Dietl rejected 21 shots on goal for Brampton. The Bombers totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Team's Anton Bura and Sam Hisey were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
