Shane O Brien gave the Stratford Cullitons a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Brampton Bombers when he scored 1:40 into the extra period.
Although Stratford was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Brampton kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Bombers got to within 4-3 on a goal by Jordan Crocker at 6:15 in the third period.
Brampton's power play was ineffective against the Cullitons' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.
The Bombers were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Stratford was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 10 man advantages. The defensemen of the Cullitons were also effective in Brampton's zone, and came away with two goals.
Stratford additionally got points from Jake Pleon, who also had one goal and one assist. Stratford also had goals scored by Carter Allen, Jared Nash, and Hayden Broomhead, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stratford received assists from Austin Huizenga, Deven Kropf, Mitch Brooks, and Tyson Baker, who each chipped in one and Matthieu Bourbeau and Trevor Sauder, who contributed two each.
The Bombers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 40 penalty minutes.
Brampton was led by Lucas Goodman, who registered two goals. Goodman scored the first of his two goals at 6:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brampton. Cameron Cruickshank assisted on the tally. Goodman's next tally made the score 4-4 with 12:29 left in the third period. The Bombers found themselves down a man on Brad Bollert's hooking. Nick Petropoulos picked up the assist. Brampton also got a goal from Connor Andersen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Kevin Bray, Christian Sgroi, and Shane Dietl, who each chipped in one.
Nick Redman made 17 saves for Stratford on 21 shots. The Cullitons incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Dietl rejected 45 shots on goal for Brampton.
