Boyd, Ural, and Blankenship Off To Becker College
Three Eels will suit up for the Hawks next season, where Kenan Ural, Dan Boyd and Brenner Blankenship will do there best to not just play but “thrive.” All three will put on new colors, move to a new environment and begin their dream of playing NCAA hockey. Each of these players where very influential in the Fort Myers area, not just on the ice, but in giving back to the local community. “It was never rare to see these guys helping out with our youth programs at night. The kids loved them, and they were fan favorites of the (Fort Myers) Skatium,” Eels Youth Coordinator Lisa Demeyre states.
Dan Boyd has been big member of the Fort Myers area for sometime now. Born and raised a Fort Myers native, he has been brought up through the Eels youth program. “Each year you see his play gradually progress,” Assistant Coach Frank Scarpaci says “you know hes going to give his best effort every practice, and the guys feed off that. He sets the tone each day, and has very underrated skill. I don’t think people realize how good of a player he can be. You have to tip your hat at Becker for finding this diamond in the rough.”
Kenan Ural came to the Eels two years ago, brining them a good mix of size and grit. The 6’0” center can be elite when shutting down the opponents best players. “He was excellent for us when it came to the little things. Such as faceoffs and his craftiness around the net. He really has a knack for tracking the puck there.” Urals play always seemed to accelerate around playoff times that will help the Hawks in a tough conference.
Brenner Blankenship was a smooth deadline acquisition from General Manager Frank Scarpaci. The two way defenseman solidified the defense core for coach Bloomingburg. “An aggressive player who packs a good shot. Has a good frame to go along with his speed. His play will only get better as he moves on.”
