Florida Eels Weekend Recap -

The Florida Eels would like to acknowledge some of their recent alumni who have went above and beyond for their current organization this past season. The Eels have a rich tradition of grooming elite hockey players and moving them on towards the highest-level possible. Each of these men have represented the Eels organization in the highest manor. These may be just some of the Eels alumni, but the organization is proud of all its former Eels. Once an Eels always an Eel, and the rich tradition will continue to grow.
Mario Puskarich- University of Vermont (H-EAST)
Stats: GP-37 G-19 A-17 PTS-36
Eels Note: Mario had an excellent freshman year at Vermont. Each year he continues to grow as a player, while putting up big numbers. This year he led his team in goals, game winning goals and earned himself Hockey East Rookie of the Year. Mario along with his team made it to the NCAA tournament where they fell to eventual national champions, Union.
Clay Witt- Northeastern University (H-East)
Stats: GP-32 W-17 L-12 SV%-0.932
Eels Note: The senior net minder took over the starting position this year having an impressive showing. Clay ended the season with 4 shutouts and a goals against average of only 2.37. Taking part in one of the most historic tournaments in all sports, Clay also led Northeastern to the finals in the Beanpot, where they fell to Boston College.
R.J. Boyd- Michigan State University (Big-10)
Stats: GP-34 G-1 A-6 PTS: 7 PIM-18
Eels Note: R.J. continues to grow as a player each year, turning into an elite shutdown defenseman for the Spartans this season. His active stick and tremendous footwork gave him the ability to play all situations this past season.
Cameron Darcy- Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL)
Stats: GP-65 G-35 A-47 PTS-82 PIM-51
Eels Note: Cam flourished this year playing his first season in the Quebec Major Junior League. He had such an impressive year he earned his teams award of Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year. Cam ended the season finishing 9th in points in the entire league. The elite scorer continues to put up numbers no matter the league he plays in.
Rob Dowd- Sheffielf Steelers (EIHL)
Stats: GP-54 G-26 A-23 PTS-49
Eels Note: Rob had another impressive season in one of the better leagues in Europe. As he put up numbers he also got invited to play for a team in the Alisvenskan League. The rugged power forward makes the Eels proud each year as he spreads his game throughout Europe.
Dean Moore- Missouri Mavericks (CHL)
Stats: GP-23 G-1 A-10 PTS-11
Eels Note: Dean continued to add to his pro career resume this season. He continued to spread out through the minors because of injuries and coaching changes, but wherever he ended up Dean battled to get in the line-up and found a way to produce.
Matt Harrington- Mississippi Riverkings (SPHL)
Stats: GP-56 G-14 A-25 PTS-39
Eels Note: A born and raised Eel, Matt played his second year for the Riverkings notching 39 points giving him a career total of 73 points in 92 games in the SPHL. Matt is a consistent goal scorer giving any team he plays for an extra punch in the lineup.
Mike Vaskivuo- Elmira Jackals (ECHL)
Stats: GP-65 G-19 A-40 PTS-59
Eels Note: The dynamic forward had a breakout year in the ECHL, grabbing close to a point per game. Always finding ways to put points on the board Mike has established quite the impressive hockey resume. Before playing for Elmira this season, he started for the Fort Wayne Komets where he previously won the playoff MVP.
Kevin Murdock-Lake Superior State University (WCHA)
Stats: GP-18 W-7 L-10 SV%0.892
Eels Note: Kevin led his team through the rocky road season Lake Superior has this year. After an impressive campaign the year before, Kevin earned himself the starting position for the second year in a row. When the season had come to a close Kevin than signed a contract for the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL.
Reid Halabi- Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL)
Stats: GP-44 G-2 A-4 PTS-6 PIM-149
Eels Note: The hard working grinding forward Reid Halabi found himself in one of the top junior leagues in the world this last season. Making the jump from the EmpireJHL Halabi showed determination and will to stick with the Wildcats getting into a league leading 23 fights.
