HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Huntsville Havoc dropped two out of three games to the Knoxville Ice Bears winning 3-2 in overtime on Thursday, falling 4-2 on the road Friday and losing 4-3 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

 

Thursday, March 6 – Knoxville 2, Huntsville 3 – OT

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc's Paul Kurceba scored 1:18 into overtime to beat the Knoxville Ice Bears, 3-2 (OT).

Huntsville was paced by Kurceba, who registered one goal.

Knoxville was unable to stop the Havoc from sending pucks towards the net, and Huntsville eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Huntsville also got points from Nick Lazorko, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Eric Alexander also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Dominic Osman, who had one and Justin Cseter and Scott Harff, who each chipped in two.

The Ice Bears' defensemen bolstered Knoxville's offensive attack, as they bombarded Kevin Genoe with 14 shots. The Ice Bears' offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.1 shots per game they average.

Knoxville was helped by Francis Drolet, who racked up one goal. Drolet scored on the power play 16:22 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Ice Bears had gotten the advantage when the Havoc's Matt Singleton was sent off for tripping. Eric Satim assisted on the tally. Knoxville additionally got points from Satim, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Knoxville came via Brady Vandenberk, Jeremy Klaver, and Ben Souders, who contributed one a piece.

Genoe rejected 30 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Cody Rosen recorded 31 saves for Knoxville. The Ice Bears incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

 

Friday, March 7 – Huntsville 2, Knoxville 4

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears and the Huntsville Havoc were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Knoxville made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jason Price secured the win for the Ice Bears with a goal in the second period.

Knoxville was paced by Jeremy Klaver, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Klaver scored 16:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Knoxville. Andrew Dovey provided the assist.

The Ice Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Knoxville's defensemen played well offensively, producing three goals while racking up 10 shots.

Knoxville additionally got points from Ben Souders, who also registered one goal and one assist. Knoxville also got a goal from Mark Van Vliet as well. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Ryan Hill, who had one and Jon Higgins and Bryan Hince, who contributed two a piece.

Huntsville stifled the Ice Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Havoc put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.3 they average per game.

Huntsville was helped by Nick Lazorko, who finished with one goal. Lazorko scored 7:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Knoxville. Brian Elser also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Stuart Stefan and Josh Harris, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Hince made 32 saves for Knoxville on 34 shots. The Ice Bears totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Havoc's Kevin Genoe stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Huntsville ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.

 

Saturday, March 8 – Knoxville 4, Huntsville 3 - OT

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Knoxville Ice Bears' David Segal scored 3:02 into overtime to beat the Huntsville Havoc, 4-3 (OT).

Knoxville got the win on the strength of a great game by Segal, who had two goals and two assists. Segal scored the first of his two goals at 16:33 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Knoxville. Brady Vandenberk picked up the assist. Segal's next tally made the score 4-3 Knoxville with 16:58 left in overtime. Mark Van Vliet assisted on the tally.

The 33 shots that the Ice Bears put on net surpassed Knoxville's average of 25.0 shots per game this season.

Others who scored for Knoxville included Jeremy Klaver and Andrew Dovey, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Peter Neal and Eric Satim, who contributed one a piece.

Huntsville's offense rang up 41 shots on the Ice Bears' net.

The Havoc were led by Stuart Stefan, who registered two goals. Stefan scored the first of his two goals at 54 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville. Justin Cseter picked up the assist. Stefan's next tally made the score 3-3 with 17 seconds left in the third period. Josh Harris assisted on the tally. Huntsville also got a goal from Nick Lazorko as well. More assists for Huntsville came via Leland Fidler and Eric Alexander, who each chipped in one.

Cody Rosen made 38 saves for Knoxville on 41 shots. The Ice Bears incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jesse Kallechy rejected 29 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
