Elmira wins tough contest against Brampton, 5-3

The game between the Elmira Sugar Kings and the Brampton Bombers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Elmira emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brodie Whitehead at 13:41 of the third period.

The win by the Sugar Kings clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

Elmira was paced by Whitehead, who had one goal.

The Sugar Kings stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Elmira additionally got points from Brad Kobryn, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Cass Frey, who also registered one goal and one assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Eric Palazzolo and Matt Harding, who each put in one. In addition, Elmira received assists from Mitch Klie, who had three and Alex Mutton, Michael Wilkins, Zac Coulter, and Cash Seraphim, who contributed one a piece.

The Bombers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Elmira to score on any of its three power plays.

Brampton was helped by Brad Bollert, who tallied one goal. Bollert scored 14:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brampton. Greg Wilson assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Brampton included Jason Smith and Owen Burry, who scored one goal each. More assists for Brampton came via Nick McNutt and Brandon Clelland, who each chipped in one.

The Sugar Kings' Hayden Neuman stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Elmira ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Sugar Kings, Adam Brubacher was ejected from the game. Scott Patton made 25 saves for the Bombers on 29 shots. Brampton incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
