Box Score

If you planning on stop The Shield, running Pearle Olatunji off the three point line has to be a priority. Olatunji scored 25 points, 18 from behind the arc as his team won 64-60 over Team Juice.

But Olatunji wasn’t the only star for The Shield, as CSL veterans Jamel Williams and Edmond Jefferson were excellent. Williams, playing out of position at center for the undersized Shield pulled down 10 boards, scored 11 points, and added 4 steals. But more importantly, he provided excellent defense in the post against the larger Joe Manor and Matt Miller. Meanwhile Jefferson’s scrappy penetration and board work was invaluable, especially down the stretch.

Certainly Juice is hoping that close losses will not become an ongoing thing. In their first CSL game against Tip, they were trailing for most of the game but fought back late. However, this game was much different, as early on it was all Juice. They road the back of guard Brian St. Pierre, who without any Shield shot blockers, dominated offensive. via penetration. He nailed 6 of his 8 first shots and by the end of the 1st half, Juice had their largest lead of the game.

However, Shield never gave up and we able to get back into the game, via the fastest way possible, the three point shot. They shot over 50% from the arc and with 5 minutes to play, a Damien Hooker three pointer gave Juice a lead they would never lose.

Juice fell to 0-2, but will likely find many more wins as the season progresses. With a few bounces, they could easily be 2-0. If they do find themselves in the bottom of the bracket, will likely be the team most likely to pull out an upset in the playoffs. Meanwhile Shield’s place as the best three point shooting team in the CSL means that they will always be a dangerous test to whoever they face.
