Winter Garden, Fl. - The Orlando Snappers suffered their first defeat against the Winter Garden Squeeze this season after beginning 5-0 on the year against Mike McDaniel’s men.
The Snappers got ahead in the second inning 1-0.
They manufactured their lone run of the game on a pair of base hits as part of a 2-out rally.
Winter Garden would take care of the rest of the offense in this 5-1 contest scoring 1 run in the fourth, 3 in the fifth, and 1 more in the bottom of the seventh.
The Squeeze took advantage of 3 Snappers defensive miscues to push across those 5 unanswered runs.
Orlando finished the game with 9 hits on their 1 run, while the hosts recorded just 6 hits but 5 runs to take the victory.
Brett Dennis (Florida Southwestern State) got the start on the bump for Orlando, throwing 3 no-hit innings while striking out 1 and walking 2.
Christian Borbely (Daytona State), Christian Montes (Florida Tech), Tyler Garcia (Lake Sumter), and Dominick Venta (Catonsville) all came in Dennis’ relief giving up a combined 3 earned runs and 6 hits while retiring 2 with a strikeout.
Offensively, Grant Comeaux was the only player for either team with a multi-hit game. The third basemen started 2-2 at the plate and finished the night with a 2-4 box score.
The Snappers will enjoy a day off on Sunday and will travel to Winter Park to take on the Diamond Dawgs on Monday, June 29 with first pitch set for 6:00pm from Alfond Stadium.
