Valley Blue Sox vs. North Shore Navigators

Final Score: Valley 6, North Shore 1

Lynn, MA- The Navigators hosted the Blue Sox in a cross-state matchup at Fraser Field. Valley wasted no time when Sebastian Mexico (Louisiana Tech) hit a solo home run in the top of the first, to quickly put the Blue Sox up 1-0. Michael O’Conor (Eastern Illinois) followed that up with an RBI double to make the score 2-0 Valley after the second inning.

Navigators SP Trey Yesu (Bridgewater State) was able to hold it together after the first inning, striking out seven batters and not allowing any more runs before being replaced after five. Ethan Wilson (Winthrop) was able to back up Yesu’s dominance by hitting an RBI single to cut into Valley’s lead to put them up only 2-1. In the top of the sixth, the Blue Sox took advantage of Yesu leaving the game when Rees Kozar (Niagara) led things off with an RBI single to increase the Navigators’ lead to 3-1. Sebastian Mexico (Louisiana Tech) kept things going with a groundout to drive in a run, and Clay Burdette (Xavier) capped off the rally with a two-RBI double to put the Blue Sox up 6-1.

Blue Sox pitching absolutely shut down the Navigators, with the staff combining for twelve strikeouts. Marty Coyne (UPenn) counted for four, while Andrew Wertz (Salve Regina) racked up two in the top of the ninth to keep North Shore’s bats quiet.

Sanford Mainers vs. Upper Valley Nighthawks

Final Score: Sanford 12, Upper Valley 6

Hartford, VT - The Nighthawks hosted the Mainers Saturday night in a high-scoring affair, with Sanford getting the job done to record their first win of the season.

Sanford’s hitters were all over the Upper Valley arms tonight, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a Zach Kent (SUNY Binghamton) double. Upper Valley responded with two of their own in the bottom of the frame, but the Sanford bats were too much to handle. They added another run in the top of the second on a Luke Jenkins (UNC Greensboro) RBI, and two more in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Upper Valley was able to add two more runs in the fourth on a Nicholas Mazzotta (Wagner) double, but left the inning still behind.

Upper Valley fought back again in the sixth with a Cooper Blauser (Jacksonville State) sac fly, and again in the seventh on a Cole Fellows (Columbia) RBI to cut the lead to 9-6, but Sanford’s Brennan Hudson (Georgia) scored on a Blake Schaaf (Georgetown) single in the top of the eighth to bring the lead to four. Sanford added more insurance in the top of the ninth on a two-run bomb from Hudson.

Kent, Hudson, Schaaf, and Coleman McGinnis (UNC Asheville) led the way for the Mainers as they each recorded multi-hit games, with Hudson recording three and leaving himself a double away from the cycle. Kellen Strohmeyer (Iowa) also contributed with four walks, scoring twice.

With the win, Sanford goes to 1-5 while Upper Valley falls to 4-3. Be sure to catch the rematch tomorrow in Sanford as Upper Valley looks to bounce back.

Bristol Blues vs. Danbury Westerners

Final Score: Bristol 3, Danbury 2

Danbury, CT- The Bristol Blues came into Rogers Park to take on the Westerners this Saturday. Led by a masterful pitching performance by Noah McMahon (Wofford), the Blues defeated the Westerners for the third time this season in as many games.

Bristol got the scoring started in the top of the third on a Thomas Ahlers (Keene State) RBI single. The Blues followed this up in the fourth with a Joey DeMucci (Penn State) RBI double and a Yeudy Ramirez (American International) RBI single, bringing the score to 3-0.

Thanks to McMahon, who finished with five innings pitched, four strikeouts, and only two hits, Danbury was not able to get anything going until the ninth. William Cook (school) scored on a Kyle Garbowski (Quinnipiac) RBI, and Michael Stallrecht (Binghamton) scored two pitches later on a ball to the backstop. But, with runners on first and second, closing pitcher Carson Renner (Penn State) sealed the deal and secured the victory for the Blues.

With the victory, Bristol jumps to 7-2 while Danbury falls to 4-3. The Blues are back at it tomorrow, hosting the Mystic Schooners, and Danbury must wait until Tuesday to host the Valley Blue Sox.
