LYNN, Mass. - After Valley dropped the first game of their five-game road trip they showed up and defeated the Northshore Navigators 6-1 at Fraser Field.
The Blue Sox came out firing early getting on the board thanks to Sebastian Mexico launching a two-run homer giving them a quick 2-0 lead. Starting pitcher for Northshore Trey Yesu struggled in the early goings but settled in during the second inning and kept Valley in check.
Valley starting pitcher Marty Coyne got himself into a bases-loaded jam in the fifth but ended up only allowing one run due to an infield single before being relieved by Andrew Besell. Coyne pitched for four innings and allowed one run with two strikeouts plus a walk.
Valley held onto a 2-1 lead going into the sixth before shifting the tides. Rees Kozar drove in a run to make it 3-1 before the Sox loaded the bases and ran in three more guys off of reliever Sam Beiveau for Northshore, making it 6-1. It was no secret that the top of Valley's batting order delivered big time throughout the sixth inning to take control of the game.
Jack Niedringhaus and Besell combined for three scoreless innings right out of the bullpen each recording strikeouts and giving no opportunities for Northshore to claw back.
The win gives Valley a 5-3 record on the season as they look to continue their road trip to Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, New York to take on the Martha's Vineyard Sharks Monday at 1:00 p.m.
The Valley Blue Sox displayed a balanced showing from both the pitching staff and offense.
