Lima's Evan Shapiro earns first GLSCL Pitcher of the Week

GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - June 9, 2025

 

Evan Shapiro - Lima Locos - Ball State University (transfer portal)

Evan Shapiro got the start for the Locos helping with two other pitchers to combing on a seven-innings no hitter. Shapiro pitched the first four innings striking out eight batters and allowing just two walks. The Locos won the game 11-0 over the Muskegon Clippers with Shapiro earning the victory.

 

 

Shapiro is currently in the transfer portal after spending the 2025 spring season at Ball State. The University Heights, Ohio native appeared in 4 games throwing three and 2/ innings. The 6’7” right hander spent his freshman season ion 2024 at Kent State appearing in nine games and pitching 13 innings.

 

Shaprio was an two-time Ohio All-State pitcher at University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

 

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week

 

Johnny Stavola - Michigan Monarchs - University of Michigan-Dearborn

Johnny Stavola came out the bullpen on Opening Night for the Monarchs throwing four shutout innings. The left handed knuckle baller struck out three batters while give up just one hit and one walk. Stavola was the winning pitcher in the Monarchs 6-4 over the Flag City Sluggers.

 

 

Owen Shimmel - Xenia Scouts - Lancaster Bible College

Owen Shimmel earned the victory for the Xenia Scouts in its 11-1 Opening Day win over the Southern Ohio Copperheads. Shimmel pitched three shutout innings out of the bullpen giving up four hits while striking out 2 batters.

 

 

Nate Miller - Grand Lake Mariners - New College of Florida

Nathaniel “Nate” Miller pitching five innings for the Grand Lake Mariners on Sunday against the Hamilton. He was stuck with a no decision in the Mariners 5-1 loss to the Joes. The game was tied 1-1 when Miller departed after giving up just one run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 7 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
