After dropping a tight game in Mystic on Saturday 6-5, the Waves came into North Adams with determination to get back to .500 on the season, and did so with a 5-2 win over the SteepleCats.

Powered by a two-double effort from Donovan Cash, the first baseman’s two-RBI knock in the top of the fifth placed the Waves in front of North Adams for good. However a series of events led up to the opportunity for Cash.

It was the SteepleCats striking in the primary run when Jake Kulikowski found his way home from a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nathen Voss in the top of the first.

The SteepleCat lead did not last long though, as it was Ocean State responding in the top of the second when Aaron Walton crossed home after being driven in by a man with the same name in Aaron Posey, evening up the game at 1-1.

Following a scoreless third inning, both squads were able to bring a runner in during the fourth, pushing the tie to 2-2. Ocean State brought in Cash off the bat of Eric Fernandez and North Adams’ DJ Perron blasted a solo homer to left center.

After the payday for Cash, the Ocean State bullpen did a phenomenal job to keep the SteepleCats off the board for the remainder of the game. Jack Wentworth, Jeremy Urena and Logan Bevis combined for 5.0 innings pitched, allowing no runs and just two hits to preserve the Waves lead.

Tristan Head also scored a run for the Waves in the top of the ninth, driven in by a ground ball fielder’s choice from Zac Zyons, making the save for Bevis just that much more manageable.

The Waves are back in action tomorrow in Keene, New Hampshire to take on the Swamp Bats at 6:35 p.m. after a day off on Monday.
