LYNN, Mass. (June 16, 2025) 一 The North Shore Navigators fell 1-0 to the Newport Gulls in Tuesday’s New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Fraser Field.

North Shore slipped to 4-9 on the summer, while Newport improved to 7-5.

Despite the loss, four Navs pitchers combined to strike out nine and allow just four hits. Starter Oisin Lee (Notre Dame) fanned four across five innings of scoreless, one-hit ball.

Designated hitter Aukai Kea (Vanderbilt) went 2-for-4 to lead the North Shore offense. It was his third straight multi-hit effort and fourth of the summer.

In the Navs’ ninth, Kea and first baseman Sean Scanlon (Holy Cross) hit consecutive one-out singles to put the tying and winning runs on base. After pinch runner Ethan Wilson (Winthrop) stole second, Newport closer Aidan Coleman (Pitt) worked out of the jam when center fielder Michael Gupton (Samford) tracked down third baseman Alex Marot’s (West Virginia) deep fly.

Lee faced just one batter over the minimum during his second start of the summer, working around a two-out walk to Newport catcher Will Fosberg (Northeastern) in the second inning.

Newport scored the only run it needed against North Shore reliever Colin Dowdle (Holy Cross) in the sixth, as right fielder AJ Evasco (Kansas State) ripped a leadoff triple into the left-center gap and scored on Gupton’s RBI groundout two batters later.

Navs relievers Elliott Eaton (Princeton) and Pierce Friedman (Maine) finished the game with scoreless work. Eaton struck out three across two shutout innings in his team-leading sixth appearance of the summer, while Friedman fanned a pair as he pitched through a one-out error.

Newport starter Finbar O’Brien (Gonzaga) turned in an outstanding five-inning start, striking out 11 without allowing a hit. Coleman overcame North Shore’s pair of late hits to post the save.

The Navs complete their home-and-home season series against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks on Thursday night in Oak Bluffs. First pitch is set for 6:50 p.m.
