McAndrews, Caldon Flourish in Week Six

Date:  Source: Ocean State Waves

With the season now well underway, our Waves are not only finding their footing in their respective programs, but consistently putting up impressive numbers. Two new additions to the Ocean State Waves roster highlighted the weekend, earning themselves player of the week honors for the sixth week of the collegiate baseball season. The most valuable players of week six goes to catcher Thomas McAndrews out of Fordham University, and pitcher Mike Caldon out of Felician University.

Earning Rienzi Pasta Player of the Week honors, is sophomore Thomas McAndrews out of Fordham University. Former member of the 2023 Atlantic-10 all-rookie team, McAndrews has been a dominant performer both behind the dish and at the plate for Rams, heavily contributing to their success in only his second year. Fordham welcomed Hofstra University for a midweek matchup and tallied a 10-8 victory over the Pride. McAndrews solo home run gave the Rams their fourth run of the night, and his two scores helped the Rams win a high-scoring contest by just two runs. The Rams’ Bronx battle with neighboring rival St. Johns resulted in a series loss despite taking a game two victory on home turf. Despite the loss, McAndrews tallied four hits across the weekend, including two doubles, one of which drove on the go-ahead run in their lone victory over St. Johns. Fordham now sits 8-15 on the year, hoping to make a run with conference play looming in the near future.

On the mound, earning himself Whalers Brewery Pitcher of the Week honors, junior Mike Caldon out of Felician University tallied two season-highs in his weekend outing with the Golden Falcons. In a midweek matchup with Post University, the Golden Falcons were unable to generate offensive momentum, despite Caldon’s lights-out defensive performance. Through 6 ⅓  innings pitched against the Eagles, Caldon tallied a career-high of nine strikeouts with only one walk and two earned runs. In his second appearance of the weekend, the junior pitched one inning in relief, tallying two strikeouts while keeping the Eagles off the board to give Felician another win on the season. Caldon improves to 7-3 on the season with a total of 44 innings pitched, with 57 strikeouts.

We are so proud of our guys this week and every week, and can’t wait to see them at Old Mountain.
