MINOT, N.D. -- A tie equals a draw unless it feels like a loss. That was the feeling last Wednesday when the Beavers and Marauders battled to a 1-1 tie in Bismarck. The Beavers looked sluggish and uninspired as they skated off the ice at the Starion Sports Complex. A 1-1 tie to their arch rivals, fueled a much different performance on Saturday night. The Beavers came out with more energy in front of the largest crowd of the season and turned it into a big 4-1 win.
In the first, both teams squared off with both goaltenders turning aside 10 and 8 shots respectably. In the second, the Beavers used their speed to create goals off of odd man rushes on a couple of occasions. First, from freshman Carter Barley, then eight minutes later from senior Adam Wowryk. The Beavers poured it on late in the period by adding another goal from Landyn Cochrane to give the Beavers a 3-0 after two periods. The Marauders netted their first goal of the game halfway through the third period in an attempt to claw their way back. Junior Davis Sheldon dashed any Marauder hopes redirecting a nice deflection to give the Beavers the 4-1 win. Sophomore Chad Duran made 28 saves for the Beaver victory.
Beavers will have a quick turnaround as they host D1 rival Jamestown on Thursday night, 7:00pm at the Pepsi Rink.
