MINOT, N.D. -- You knew the battle would be tight as it has always been. The same thing was the case on Wednesday night as the Beavers and Marauders skated to a 1-1 tie. In the ACHA Division 2 level, there are no shootouts. Another difference was overtime was played four on four. The rules governed by the ACHA determine rules are dictated by the home site. In this case it was in Bismarck. Had the game been played in Minot. Overtime would have been three on three and if still tied, would have played a shootout.
The game featured back and forth play all night. The teams managed a combined 69 shots total, one of the highest totals in a Beavers game this season. The first period was dictated by excellent goaltending on both ends resulting in a 0-0 tie. In the second, UMary got on the board first to make it 1-0. Late in the period, short handed, senior Blake Fournier was able to bury a rebound to tie the game. In the third and in overtime, multiple chances were available with no avail ending in a 1-1 tie.
The Beavers will no head to Jamestown on Friday to take on the Jimmies before returning to Minot on Saturday for the rematch with the Marauders. Game time is 7:30pm.
