Minot, ND- In a two o clock matinee start between the Briercrest Clippers and the Minot State University Beavers, the beavers got off to a quick start when Sophomore forward Jordan Robertson, found himself wide open backdoor. He took a nice feed from Sophomore forward Davis Sheldon, and buried it past Briercrest goaltender Billy Cawthorn. The two teams traded powerplays in the first, but failed to convert. With 2:16 left in the first, Clippers forward slipped one past Beavers Goaltender Holden Kurtz, to knot the game at one apiece. The Clippers outshot the beavers 9-8.

The Beavers began the 2nd period on a 2-man advantage, and got lots of good looks, but Clippers goaltender was equal to the task. The Beavers broke a 1-1 tie midway through the 2nd period when  Sophomore forward Landyn Cochrane took a pass from Senior forward Johl Swedlo and roofed it over the goaltenders left shoulder. The goals kept coming for Minot State.  Late in the 2nd period the Beavers got another 5 on 3, this time they capitalized. Senior forward Dylan Johnson found Sophomore forward Justin Metcalf in the slot, and Metcalf beat Cawthorn five-hole to extend the lead to 3-1. Moments later, Freshman forward Kirklan Lycar made a beautiful backdoor pass to a wide open Johl Swedlo, and he ripped it top shelf to make it 4-1. The Beavers poured on the shots as the lead 34-16 in the shot department after 40 minutes.

The Beavers carried a 4-1 lead into the third period. They then got in some penalty trouble. When Sophomore forward Davis Sheldon took a two-minute slashing penalty which opened the door for the Clippers to begin their comeback. Clippers forward Andrew Sorenson beat Kurtz under the blocker to get within two. Again, on the man advantage the Clippers fought to make it a one goal game when forward Cale Kinderchuck ripped one past Kurtz. Head Coach Wade Regier called a timeout after the goal to settle his team down. The penalties kept piling up for the Beavers. Clipper defenceman Trey Doll shelfed one bar down and knotted things up at four apiece. Which set the stage for Overtime. Three minutes into the overtime frame, Freshman Kirklan Lycar created himself some space, and beat Clippers goaltender Billy Cawthorn glove side to send the MAYSA crowd into a frenzy. Beavers pull out the 5-4 win in OT

"Definitely pleased with the 5-4 victory." said Head Coach Wade Regier "But I frustrated with our lack of discipline. We need to change our mindset and check our egos at the door. If we don't learn to be disciplined it's going to be a long season."

The Beavers will be back in action next weekend when they hit the road and travel to Briercrest for games three, and four of the mini preseason series. Also don’t forget about the Beavers Home opener October 4th when the Beavers raise the banner, Puck drop is at 7:30 when they take on instate rival Jamestown Jimmies visit the magic city.
