IV BUCS & PIRATES – Jordan Quinn
After coming up short in a decisive 14-inning game for the 2018 Southern California Collegiate Baseball League Championship last year, the Inland Valley Buccaneers are looking to improve upon one of their strongest seasons in recent years. The 2019 Bucs will have four returning players from last year’s roster including outfielder Dylan Hirsch (Loyola Marymount), who had a .347 batting average in the 2018 SCCBL season. Also back for the Bucs are pitchers Tyler Agajanian (LaVerne) who boasted a 1.76 ERA for the Leopards this season, Matthew Goytia (Colorado State-Pueblo), and Peter Etipence (Chico State). All three bring experience to the pitching staff. The addition of pitcher Enrique Zaldivar (Citrus College) and outfielders Rion Satamaria (Colorado State-Pueblo, .359 BA) and Gabe Arrellano (Pasadena City College, .395 BA) give the Bucs depth heading into the new season. Zaldivar will be one to watch after going 5-4 at Citrus with 53 punch-outs.
The Inland Valley Pirates are looking to improve upon 2018’s playoff appearance with a deeper run this season. Pitchers Andre Henson (Cal Poly Pomona), Jake Lacheman (UC Riverside) and Kohto Hasegawa (Cal Poly Pomona) will be returning to the Pirates for the 2019 season after each was amongst the staff leaders in appearances last year. Other returners to this year’s team are outfielders Ryan McAnless and Ryan Pho, each from Holy Names, infielder Travis Aversa (Long Beach City College) and utility player Aaron Halpert (Cypress College). Key additions to the Pirate roster this year include pitcher Trevor Harris (Saddleback, 1.35 ERA), infielders Demetri Collachio (Saddleback, .379 BA), Haydon Winters (Cypress, .342 BA) and Riley Kaspar (UC Irvine, .382 BA). The combination of the veteran Pirate players with the new additions to the roster give the team a good look on paper.
