Bringing the Desert Heat

Date:  Source: Minot State University Beavers Hockey

MINOT, N.D. -- In what has been an annual tradition, Arizona State and UNLV travel to North Dakota. This is the second consecutive year, the Beavers, Jimmies, Sun Devils and Rebels will face off. This weekend, the Sun Devils will play at Minot on Thursday before heading to Jamestown for Friday and Saturday. The Rebels will head to Jamestown on Thursday, before heading back to Minot on Friday and Saturday. The Beavers and Jimmies will then travel down to the desert in the middle of February to reciprocate the trip. The weekend is big for all teams involved.

"This is a critical weekend for us." Said Head Coach Wade Regier. "We are on the outside looking in. We have two teams inside the top 30, where the games will matter. If we want to get back to the national tournament, we will need to put some wins together."

The Beavers host Arizona State Thursday night at 7:00pm and UNLV Friday & Saturday 7:30pm both nights at the Pepsi Rink.

Scouting the 29th Ranked Sun Devils

Looking at the numbers, they can be very deceiving. The Sun Devils come into this weekend with a 5-11-1 record. However, if you dive deeper into their record, they have some very big wins. They have wins over #10 UNLV, #16 Oklahoma and #23 Colorado State. They also have a few one goal loses. This is a program that lacked depth for the past couple of seasons, who have finally put together a roster who can compete with the anyone. They are lead up front in scoring by Jett Larson 5-5-10 in 17 games. In goal, Bronson Moore has carried most of the workload. He currently spots a 5-7 record with a 3.00 goals against average. The Sun Devils are coached by Tait Green in his first season behind the bench for the Sun Devils.

Scouting the 16th Ranked Rebels

The UNLV Rebels come into the Magic City with an impressive 8-2 record. The Rebels are in their second season of Division 1 play and have proved they can play with the top brass. The Rebels qualified for the national tournament in their first season. They also beat the Beavers last season, who at that time were the number one team in the nation. The Rebels are lead up front by Cody Williams, currently with 16 points in 9 games. In goal, the Rebels have split the bulk of the time between Ben Giesbrecht and Jesse Gordichuk. Both goalies have a goals against averages under 2.3. The Rebels are coached by Anthony Vignieri Greener, 4th season.
