Player of the Week - Ryan McCanless, Inland Valley Pirates/Cypress College
Inland Valley Pirates OF Ryan McCanless earned SCCBL Player of the Week honors, helping the Pirates secure second place in the league by hitting .462 (6-13) with a home run, four walks, six runs scored and eight runs batted in during the final week of the regular season. The Fullerton native enjoyed back-to-back three-RBI games against the Bombers and Force on Friday and Sunday, sandwiched around an appearance in Saturday’s SCCBL All-Star Game. McCanless now owns an .841 OPS in 25 games played this summer.
Pitcher of the Week - Michael Starns, SoCal Bombers/Graceland University
SoCal Bombers LHP Michael Starns was named SCCBL Pitcher of the Week after two stellar relief appearances against the Bulldogs and Pirates. The Graceland southpaw opened the week with a five inning, eight strikeout appearance against Riverside on Tuesday, before adding three more whiffs in two scoreless innings against the Pirates on Friday. Starns concludes his 2018 summer season averaging 11.93 strikeouts per nine innings, trailing only RHP Adam Paulson for the best mark on the Bombers among pitchers with 10 innings thrown on the year.
