Offense Leads Tides Past Aviators

Date:  Source: Sunbelt Baseball League

The bats helped lead the Gwinnett Tides to victory in a high-scoring road win over the Alpharetta Aviators on Friday night.  The Tide offense scored in 5 different innings, and won the ball game 15-7.  The heart of the line-up led the way, as four-hitter Patrick Overstreet reached base 4 times, going 3 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored.  DH Cody Shook was also 3 for 5 with a walk, two runs scored and three driven in.  The team put together two solid rallies, scoring 4 in third inning, and 6 in fifth.

The Aviators had a productive first inning at the plate, and were leading 4-2 after 1 with the help of a home run from Justin Russell.  After the third inning rally from Tides though, it was too much to overcome for Alpharetta.  Chase Hall of Auburn also collected his first home run of the season this evening, but they still trailed 7 following the Hall blast.  He had a great day overall, reaching base all four times he came to the plate.

Despite the seven runs surrendered, the Tides pitching also put in efficient work today.  The Aviators got four of their seven runs in the first, and three of those were unearned following a fielding error.  The last 8 innings, they only allowed three runs to come across, and the game was never in doubt.  Gwinnett used three different pitchers who all put in three innings of work.  Connor Wilson started the game, but did not work long enough to earn the win.  Tanner Chafin worked the middle innings, and picked up the win while doing so.  Reliever Jacob Tate took it the rest of the way and worked the final three innings for the Tides.  It can be assumed those three will be unavailable for game two of this series tomorrow night, but the rest of the Tides pitching staff will be available.
