The Cartersville Canons secured a hard-fought 8–5 win over the Oconee Wild Things on Friday night at Lake Oconee Academy, kicking off their season in dramatic fashion.
With the game tied 4–4 heading into the ninth, the Canons broke through with a clutch go-ahead run in the top of the inning and never looked back.
Aidan Larkin and Brady McDevitt ignited the offense with two hits each, while Tyler Philips came up big, driving a whopping four RBIs. Aiden Boileau topped off the night with a blast to left field, the Canons’ first home run of the season, igniting the dugout and the crowd.
Despite rainy conditions canceling most games across the league, the Canons took full advantage of the clear skies and now sit atop the standings. With the win, they delivered a performance that lived up to the hype, thrilling a packed crowd from start to finish.
The Canons and Wild Things are set to face off again today at 2:05 p.m. at Lake Oconee Academy, as Oconee looks to even the series and bounce back from the opening-night loss.
