Player of the Week - Chase Wehesner, Inland Valley Pirates/Baylor
Inland Valley Pirates IF Chase Wehesner earned SCCBL Player of the Week honors thanks to a stellar showing with the stick, pacing the league with an .875 (7-8) batting average across three games. Manning first base for the second-place Pirates, the Baylor freshman swung for a monster 1.909 OPS on the week while tacking on four runs scored and three runs batted in, including a clutch RBI double with two strikes to put the Pirates ahead for good against the Bucs on Saturday night. Wehesner now owns a .419/.490/.581 slash line and leads the Pirates in hits (18) and runs scored (12), while trailing only the Power’s Matt Green (.425) and the Buccaneers’ Kory Brown (.423) for the SCCBL batting title.
Pitcher of the Week - Jakob Gonzalez, SoCal Bombers/Cerritos College
SoCal Bombers RHP Jacob Gonzalez shoved his way to SCCBL Pitcher of the Week, firing 10 innings of two-run ball and striking out a league-high 14 batters across two appearances. The righty earned a win in relief on Wednesday night, tossing two scoreless innings against the Bucs at home, before getting the start on the road on Saturday night where he held the Power to two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out 10 over eight innings. Gonzalez has put together a solid summer campaign for the Bombers, holding a 3.85 ERA over a team-high 25.2 innings pitched, and currently sits in second on the SCCBL strikeouts leaderboard with 34 K’s.
