Season Series:

Carleton Place Jr Canadians 6, Ottawa Canadians 4 – Sun Sept 24

Carleton Place Jr Canadians 4, Ottawa Canadians 1 – Sun Nov 26

Ottawa Canadians 3, Carleton Place Jr Canadians 2 – Sat Feb 3

Carleton Place Jr Canadians won their season series 2-1 and the road team won all their games this season series. Carleton Place outscored Ottawa 12GF/8GA in their three matchups. Ottawa Canadians were a strong team in the first half of the year but CP was the stronger team to start the year and they have still been.

Who to Watch:

For Carleton Place, they will need to watch out for Nicolas Seguin, Declan Hilton and Johnny Pickering. Seguin (5G/3A), Hilton (4G/3A) and Pickering (1G/6A) each combined for 22 points in total between the three players in the Quarter Finals against Alexandria.

Most importantly OJC has a lot of veterans on the team and have experience in Tier 1. The struggle for Ottawa is that Devin Saumur or Joshua Filoso have not scored in the post-season but were able to collect three assists in their first series.

Carleton Place will look to get on the attack like they did in the Quarter Finals. Every game in these playoffs, they have out shot their opponents in the seven games that they played against Renfrew. Vincent Bujold-Roux had a 2.40 GAA but a SV% .892. Remember he didn’t face much shots in the seven games that he has played this post season.

For Ottawa, they need to watch out for Reece Bolton, Ryland Mosley, Cameron Pratton and Alex Vala on the forward end. On the defensive end, Eastan Eckert and Martin Templeton. Mosley, Bolton and Patton combined for 41 points between the top line in their series win against Renfrew.

Mosley is 1st in playoff scoring with 9G/7A, Bolton is 4th in playoff scoring with 3G/11A, and Patton is 6th in playoff scoring 5G/6A. Vala collected 6G/2A in the quarter finals. OJC will need to shut down CP’s top line if they want any chance at winning this series.

Defense was also a key to their quarter final win with Eckert and Templeton leading the way. They combined for 15 points in the series and both scored twice. Ryan Whitehurst did struggle in Game 1 but got back up and performed very well in the final five games of that series. He posted a 1.99 GAA and SV% .925.

Whitehurst will be a key for OJC in this series if they want any chance of winning. On Defense they will need to look to Andre Giordano and Robbie Pickard to be shut down defense in the semi finals. The last time Ottawa Canadians were in the final was in 2013 when they won the EOJHL cup. It is the first appearance for Carleton Place in the playoffs since 2009 and they were called the Legion kings between 1969-2009.

The Verdict:

Carleton Place will need to keep their offensive attack going like they did last round but goaltending needs to be better. If they want to win this series, Bujold-Roux will need to answer the bell. He wasn’t able to win one goal games against Renfrew in games 1, 5 and 6 last round. For Ottawa, they need to be very defensively and have strong goaltending like they did in their last round. They did manage to win one goal contests in the wins that they got.
