In what was a great weekend for Virtua Hockey, the 14U, 15U and 18U teams all moved on to the Atlantic District Championships next weekend. Virtua Hockey is the only organization in the Atlantic District to have three teams advance at the AAA level.
The 14U team defeated the NJ Rockets 4-1 on Friday and the NJ Devils Youth 5-3 on Saturday. Based on other results in their division, the team clinched the championship berth even before they played on Sunday.
The 15U finished a perfect 3-0 on the weekend, defeating the New Jersey Hitmen 3-1 on Friday, the New Jersey Titans 5-3 on Saturday, and the Jr. Flyers 2-1 on Sunday.
The 18U team were the comeback kids of the weekend. The team lost the first game on Friday, but won their second game against the Valley Forge Minutemen 6-3 on Saturday. The team not only needed to win on Sunday, but win by more than 4 goals in order to win the tiebreaker.
Led by 2 goals each from Domenic Garozzo and Nick Martino, the 18U team won a resounding 7-2 victory over the New Jersey Titans to make the Atlantic District championships.
All three teams will travel to Hackensack, NJ from March 17-19 to play in a best of three series for the Atlantic District Championship and the opportunity to attend the 2018 USA Hockey National Championships. The 18U team will play the New Jersey Avalanche, the 15U team will take on the Mercer Chiefs and the 14U team will battle with the New Jersey Colonials.
Best of luck to our boys and congrats on a fantastic weekend!
