Alumni Update: Ryan Ferrill Signs with Maine Mariners
Date: Jul 18, 2018
Virtua Hockey is proud to congratulate Michael Colella on his commitment to play Division I Hockey for Colorado College.
Mike is a 99’ birth year, who is currently playing for the Omaha Lancers in the USHL after playing most of his youth hockey “career” for Virtua Hockey. Prior to joining Omaha, Colella spent the first month of this season with the P.A.L Islanders of the USPHL where he was leading the league in points with 8 goals and 10 assist in just 7 games.
“I am thrilled for Michael and his opportunity to play college hockey at CC. It has been a pleasure coaching him the past three seasons and to see him blossom into the player he has become” says Coach Jeremy Hall. “I give Michael a ton of credit for what he’s accomplished since his 16U season. Many people have doubted his ability to advance in this game because of his smaller size, yet every year he would find himself at the top of our stat sheet and earning recognition from other coaches as a player to watch.”
Colella’s game has always been built on speed, skill, and a high sense of the game. “If you take the skill set that Colella has and then add in his tremendous work ethic you have one heck of a hockey player” comments Jeremy Hall. Colella grew up in the Virtua Hockey program, beginning at the Squirt level. He’s always been a rink rat, hanging around the rink and getting on the ice whenever he could. His passion for the game was always evident and has now been rewarded with this next achievement in his hockey journey.
Colella joins a very deep class of former teammates that has come through Virtua Hockey. Other notable teammates who have committed to Division I schools include: Mattias Samuelsson, Evan Barratt, Matt Cassidy, Jonathan Bendorf, and Mitchell Gibson.
